Bolton Wanderers striker Kevin Davies has slammed Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson over his moaning ahead of their clash at Old Trafford last month.
Red Devils boss Fergie pointed out that Davies commits more fouls than any other player and claimed he would do "anything he possibly can to unsettle us" on the eve of last month's 2-0 win against Bolton.
Davies countered: "There seems to be an attitude with some teams that you're not allowed to tackle them.
"In the game against United at our place, I made one challenge on Evra which I got a yellow card for and he made a couple from behind that went unpunished.
"I wasn't rolling around on the floor, screaming and pretending to be injured. But then we had an accidental clash of heads - and it WAS accidental - and he was play-acting, trying to get me sent off.
"So what Ferguson said last month disappointed me. There was no need for it. But that's his trick, isn't it?
"It took the edge off my game because, after what he'd said, I knew if I made one tackle in that game in front of 75,000 fans I was going to get a yellow or even a red card. I play fair and square. I don't go out to upset anyone.
"I've played many times against John Terry and he's suffered a couple of cut lips and a bloody nose and I've had a clump on the back of the head or he's caught me with an elbow.
"That's what I enjoy, a good old battle with the centre-half and a handshake at the end of the game.
"Hermann Hreidarsson did me with an elbow against Charlton last season and broke my cheek. But I played on and got sent off for brushing someone with my arm.
"People have told me I should go down, make more of a song and a dance about challenges. But I can't do that. I find it really unnatural.
"I never want my opponent to know he's hurt me. In all my years at Bolton the physio has only been on to treat me a handful of times. And I'm quite proud of that fact."
