Bolton Wanderers are chasing Southend United boss Phil Brown for the manager's job.
The Telegraph says Brown, who worked as assistant to Sam Allardyce before successfully guiding Hull City to the Premier League for the first time in the club's history, is the favourite for the job, but caretaker Jimmy Phillips is also a leading candidate.
Dougie Freedman, appointed a successor to the sacked Owen Coyle in October 2012, was dismissed last week following a dismal run of form that has left the club facing relegation to the third tier.
