Bolton striker Davies happy to create opportunity for others

Bolton Wanderers captain Kevin Davies is happy to create glory for others.

The success of Nicolas Anelka's partnership with Davies earned the Frenchman a £15million transfer to Chelsea and resurrected his career.

Meanwhile, Davies ploughed his lonely furrow working his socks off for the benefit of others.

He said: "I've been doing that for years. In my first season under Big Sam Allardyce I was involved in 75 per cent of all our goals.

"The goals tally has never been prolific but I've been involved in a lot of them. Why has it taken so long to get an England call?

"Maybe the lack of goals. But I have the opportunity now. You never give up. At the back of your mind you are always hopeful.

"I've always been confident in my own ability and felt that I could do a job at international level but it has never quite happened for me. I'm looking forward to the challenge.

"There was some great quality out in training but I didn't feel overawed.

"I scored with a header, really enjoyed the session and I'm looking forward to the days ahead."
