Bolton skipper Nolan: Megson right man in charge

Bolton Wanderers skipper Kevin Nolan says manager Gary Megson is the right man in charge at the Reebok stadium.

Nolan said: "He took some stick when he came and let it roll off him. He got on with the job - and he has done a terrific job. A lot of the fans want to sack the board and get rid of Gary Megson.

"That is not the right thing to do as we will become an unstable club."

Bolton were promoted through the play-offs in 2001 and Nolan recalled the difficulty they had establishing themselves in the top flight.

Manager Sam Allardyce eventually took the side into Europe - for the first time in the club's history - before leaving at the end of last season.

He was immediately replaced by Sammy Lee but the former Liverpool midfielder was an early casualty.

Nolan said: "I can remember the first couple of years when Sam Allardyce was getting stick. Now we need to give someone a bit of time like we did with Sam. We need someone to put down roots, stabilise the club and take it back to where it belongs.

"I certainly believe Gary Megson, given time, the right money and the right resources, can do that."
