Bolton Wanderers are keen to bring back Kevin Nolan from West Ham United.
The Mirror says Nolan, 33, is in the final year of his contract at Upton Park and wants to be playing regularly.
But Nolan's £50,000-a-week wages could be a stumbling block for the Championship Trotters, and West Ham would have to subsidise the contract if he will not take a pay-cut.
Nolan spent 12 years at Bolton, scoring 40 league goals, before making a £4million move to Newcastle in January 2009.
