Bolton new boy Tyrone Mears looks set to be sidelined for most of the season after breaking his leg at training.
Full-back Mears only joined the Trotters from Burnley last week but will have to wait a long time to make his debut for the Premier League club as the medical staff go about ascertaining how long he will be out of action for.
"Ty went in for a challenge and unfortunately suffered the injury," Bolton boss Owen Coyle told the club's official website.
"It was desperately unlucky for him and we will make sure that he is fully supported in his rehabilitation.
"He will go for a check and an assessment in a month and that will indicate more accurately the timescale for his recovery."
