Bolton Wanderers pair Kevin Davies and Gary Cahill have been lifted after being told they are just a whisker away from the England squad.
Both were in Fabio Capello's 'long squad' for last week's friendly in Spain - the 32 players trimmed to 23 for the game.
Trotters boss Gary Megson said: "It was tremendously encouraging. I was disappointed they didn't make the main squad but it's an incentive to keep plugging away.
"We keep hearing Kevin doesn't score enough but he's got nine now and is right on the heels of the country's top scorers. And it's only a matter of time until Gary breaks through."
