Stuart Holden is determined to continue his improvement after returning to scoring form for the USA.
The Bolton midfielder has now made four international appearances in the past two months as he recovers from a pair of serious knee injuries and was thrilled to get on the scoresheet in the 6-1 CONCACAF Gold Cup win over Belize on Tuesday.
But after coming on at half-time to replace Kyle Beckerman, Holden now wants to build on that and get to top form and fitness as the tournament progresses.
"It was another good half. It's nice to get on the score sheet. It's my first goal back from injury," he said.
"It felt really good and it's another tick in the box, and I think I've ticked them all. I'm ready to push on now and get better from game to game. As far as a team performance, we can take a lot of positives from tonight and really look at the second game now."
He added: "I think I'm back in that respect. For me now it's not a matter of being back, it's a matter of getting better than that. I want to be better than I was before. I want to reach new heights that I didn't before my injury. In terms of being back, that word is overplayed. I'm there. It's just a matter of fine tuning and taking it to the next level."
