Bolton Wanderers are planning a shock £6 million offer for Standard Liege midfielder Axel Witsel.

The Mirror says Bolton boss Gary Megson has been promised transfer window cash by chairman Phil Gartside and is keen on the midfielder.

The 19-year-old impressed in Liege's UEFA Cup win over Everton last month and has also attracted interest from Middlesbrough.

Witsel rejected both Arsenal and Real Madrid for Liege at the age of 15.
