Bolton land Birmingham's Muamba

Bolton Wanderers have made their first signing of the summer after landing midfielder Fabrice Muamba from Birmingham City.

The Trotters have agreed a deal worth over £5million for the former England Under-21 international who began his career at Arsenal.

The 20-year-old midfielder made 39 appearances for the Blues last season but has now agreed a four-year contract at the Reebok Stadium.

Muamba joined Birmingham on loan from the Gunners in 2006 before earning a permanent £4million move to St Andrew's last summer.

"Fabrice is a tough-tackling central midfielder who has had a good grounding with the Arsenal youth set-up," manager Gary Megson told the club's official website.

"He's played in the Premier League with Birmingham City and he'll be a tremendous asset to Bolton Wanderers over the coming seasons."
