Bolton fans furious with late Arsenal call

Bolton Wanderers fans are upset with Arsenal over the postponement of their Barclays Premier League match yesterday evening.

About 300 Bolton fans made the trip to North London for the game but, after freezing weather continued to plague the South East, the areas in and around the Emirates Stadium were deemed unsafe.

That prompted Arsenal to call off the match in mid-afternoon, when most Bolton fans were already well on the way to the game, if not already in the capital, and that approach frustrated many who had forgone a day's work to make the trip.

"I'm angry for those that went down," David Blackburn, a spokesman for the Bolton Wanderers Supporters' Association, told The Times. "I don't understand why, when Arsenal first knew the conditions were likely to be this bad, they didn't call the match off then rather than just ignore the weather that was coming. Do they not realise how far fans would have to travel to get there?

"I can't see why Manchester United and Manchester City can call off their [Carling Cup] semi-final on a Tuesday for a Wednesday match but Arsenal cannot do it until the afternoon of the game. The weather forecast has been known for many days now."
