Bolton captain Nolan heads for Newcastle

Bolton skipper Kevin Nolan has completed a £4million move to Newcastle.

. The 26-year-old midfielder has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal.

Bolton boss Gary Megson was reluctant to discuss the deal at his weekly press conference.

"For any more details you will have to go to the press office of the football club and they will let you know what we're doing," said the manager.

"That's as far as I'm going to go with it."

Toon boss Joe Kinnear was delighted with the signing.

"When I heard there was a chance of getting Kevin I was determined we would pull out all the stops to bring him here," he told the club's official website.

"He's a player I think our fans will love. He's a real inspirational player and a great character. He's the sort of lad who never knows when he is beaten.

"He's got a good eye for goal and has got bags of Premier League experience.

"I think he is going to be a very valuable player for us and someone who can help us climb back up the table."

Nolan admitted it was too good an opportunity to turn down.

"It all happened so quickly but it was an opportunity which was impossible to turn down," he said.

"I can't wait to play in front of these fans every week and I'm really looking forward to the next four-and-a-half years."
