Bolton Wanderers captain Kevin Davies admits he had doubts about Arsenal youngster Jack Wilshere when he was first signed on-loan.
But within the space of his first training session, the England Under-21 international had made enough of an impression to change his new team-mate's mind.
"When I first heard we were bringing him in from Arsenal, I expected him to be a soft lad who just wanted to get the ball down and play football," Davies told the Bolton News.
"But he really impressed me right away with how much he wants to get stuck in. He's not frightened of dishing it out, at all.
"I know Ade Stovell (Wanderers' fitness conditioner) has been working really hard with him, making him stronger, because at first glance it hits you how young he is, and you'd think his size might let him down a bit.
"That hasn't really happened, and he isn't scared of putting a tackle in, even in training."
