Bolton captain Davies: Fans love my commitment

Bolton Wanderers captain Kevin Davies admits he enjoys his role.

The scars, fractures and the metal plate that holds his wrist in place are the result of 15 years' hard labour.

Davies wouldn't swap it for the world, thriving on the cuts and bruises, the clashes and collisions with Premier League centre-halves.

He said: "Every now and then I do say to the boys 'You can play it to my feet', but I've got the physical side to my game, I know that.

"There are fewer and fewer like me. It's difficult to play my game without the risk of getting a red card.

"The fans want commitment and they want to see bodies being thrown in and putting in tackles rather than a team stringing 20 passes together and scoring a brilliant goal. We won't change the way we play, whether that's Arsenal or Blackpool.

"If you play Arsenal we know what to expect. Stuff goes on before and after games, but we don't go there and say 'Let's give them a kick, they don't like it'.

"People might think we go out to kick people, but we are too honest, probably too honest. You don't see our players complaining about being kicked."
