Bolton boss Megson: Keane appeared fine to me

Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson admits Roy Keane's departure from Sunderland surprised him.

Sunderland's 4-1 defeat to Bolton was Keane's last game in charge and Megson told the Daily Star Sunday: "Roy and I spoke after our 4-1 win at the Stadium of Light last Saturday and he seemed all right.

"He didn't appear depressed or fed up and just said how poorly his side had defended.

"There was a strange atmosphere inside the stadium although Roy didn't take a lot of stick from his fans.

"Sunderland had a perfectly good goal disallowed that would have made it 2-2 and who knows what the result might have been.

''Who knows what might have happened to him?

"But that's the job. A bloodbath. It gets to you and it's getting worse. A few bad results and there is a crisis.

"Too many people are looking for a quick fix. 'If there is a problem let's change the manager' seems to be the way out for too many clubs.

"It is not just down the bottom any more but everyone, apart from the top four. A few injuries, some misfortune, a couple of defeats and it's crisis time.

"When Roy took over, Sunderland were bottom of the Championship.

"He is his own man and his decision once again allows us managers to ask the game: 'Why?'

"Where is the stability in football? Where is the full support? Where is the common sense?

"Keane is the latest manager to go and it won't be long before there is another one, for some reason."
