Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson has revealed he's already been knocked back in transfer bids.

"The suspensions and injuries do make it imperative that we strengthen but that doesn't mean you can get the players," he explained. "I could guarantee now that I could sign players but whether they would be ones to improve us, that's the trick.

"We need those who could step into a Premier League side currently sitting in 11th and make us better - that doesn't always apply.

"When you ring clubs about players, the answer right the way through has been 'no'.

"We're not close to signing anyone. Not because we haven't been trying but because the clubs don't want to sell their players at the moment."
