Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson has hit out at former Liverpool manager Phil Thompson.

On Sky Sports last week, ex-Liverpool star Thompson accused Megson of trying to make a point to the club's board by naming just four subs at Arsenal.

Megson said: "Thompson's got it wrong - I certainly wasn't trying to prove a point. We simply haven't got the players to fill the bench.

"People can say, 'Chuck the kids in there,' but they were kids! Jaroslaw Fojut, Adam Bogdan and Temitope Obadeyi have not made their debuts yet and Mustapha Riga was a free transfer."

Megson has cut his squad from 29 to just 18 since succeeding Sammy Lee as Bolton boss in October 2007.
