Bolton boss Megson earns healthy survival bonus

Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson won a healthy bonus after keeping the club up on Sunday.

The Sun says Megson scooped a £750,000 bonus for keeping Bolton in the Premier League.

Megs succeeded axed Sammy Lee in November with the club in the drop zone but masterminded an escape to the extent they were virtually safe with a game to go.

It was a remarkable turnaround for Megson whose appointment was hugely unpopular with Wanderers fans. But a good UEFA Cup run and a recovery in league fortunes transformed his standing.

It also took some of the heat off chairman Phil Gartside who had a bitter bust-up with former boss Sam Allardyce after he quit a year ago.

Megson's bonus was well behind Steve Bruce's - he collected more than £1m for keeping Wigan up.
