Gary Megson admits he is delighted to be back in management at Bolton Wanderers as he prepares to face Bayern Munich tonight.

Until Bolton snatched their new boss from Leicester, jobless Megson had spent 18 months in the wilderness.

"I never gave up hope of landing another job," he insists. "People didn't forget me but I was confident in myself.

"At times you do get down. But your family keeps you going and people keep in touch.

"However, you have to keep yourself going. As a result I did a bit of scouting. I went watching games for England for a short while.

"And I went to games, scouting for myself if you like. It meant I had the knowledge for when I did get back in. I did have two opportunities but it was at a level I didn't particularly want.

"There was a trend to pick younger managers but clubs now seem to want more experienced hands."
