Bolton boss Megson on Chelsea clash: Wigan did us no favours

Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson says Wigan Athletic did them no favours in beating Chelsea earlier this season.

The Trotters, fresh their Carling Cup defeat, face Chelsea again this weekend.

Chelsea suffered a shock the last time they played in the north-west, with Wigan pulling off a 3-1 victory at the DW Stadium.

That result would seem to offer Bolton some hope for the weekend, but as far as Megson is concerned, it will only have made the Blues doubly determined that it will not happen again.

"It was a great result for Wigan and I'll take nothing away from them, but I don't think it did anybody else any favours," Megson said. "Once these big teams get put under pressure they always come up with the goods afterwards.

"A couple of years ago we beat Man United at our place, but it only seemed to serve as a wake-up call for them.

"The fact that they have lost a game to a team that they haven't expected to lose to seems to galvanise the whole football club and they use that to their advantage."
