Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson is calling for a salary cap after Manchester City's new £100 million bid for AC Milan star Kaka.

Megson insists that English football will suffer if the current trend continues.

"They (the authorities) are going to have to have a look at it if they want a more balanced Premier League," he said.

"The Champions League and Premier League are fantastic competitions but it is getting more and more difficult for the people who don't have a great amount of finances.

"While it would be great to see that kind of quality (Kaka) in the Premier League I'm not sure how it fits in with the minds of everyone who is interested in football.

"To be able to go into a sport, try to buy the world's best players and stick them in a stadium and try to buy success - I'm not sure how that sits."
