Bolton Wanderers boss Sammy Lee insists he was right to leave out captain Kevin Nolan and player-coach Gary Speed from his team for yesterday's defeat by Chelsea.

"I pick whichever squad I feel will do a job at any given time," he said.

Lee continued: "You do not always get what you deserve out of football. I was just so pleased with the application of the boys.

"I thought the desire from that group of players was excellent. We made one mistake and got punished for it."
