Bolton Wanderers boss Dougie Freedman says Max Clayton's compensation price is too rich for them.
Freedman has also confirmed that the 20-year-old who was on trial at the Potters has now travelled to Denmark to speak with FC Midtjylland.
Crewe are understand to have put a £1million price tag on Clayton's head as despite being out of contract, Crewe would be due compensation for the Nantwich-born frontman due to his age, says The Sentinel.
"He's a good player and we liked him - he's the kind of player we should be bringing to the club," Freedman said of Clayton.
"But the fee that Crewe wanted it out of our reach."
