Bolton boss Coyle determined to better Allardyce record

Bolton Wanderers boss Owen Coyle insists he can better the record of Sam Allardyce at the Reebok.

Allardyce guided the club into the top flight and Europe during his eight-year reign as well as overseeing the building of their state-of-the-art training complex.

The club have never hit the same dizzying heights under his successors and remain in the bottom three despite the dismissal of Gary Megson and the appointment of Coyle.

But the Scot is confident he can not only keep the club in the top flight, but also bring back the glory days.

He said: "What I want to do is build on the legacy that Sam left and produce the stars of the future for this club and the facilities here give us the opportunity to do that.

"Sam really took the club on and established them as a Premier League side and brought some fantastic players to the club.

"When someone has done a job of that magnitude there is nothing wrong in still being associated with the club. The football club has got a lot to thank him for.

"When I first came to the training ground as a player there was a couple of pitches and some bowling greens at the back. We got changed in a small room that had two showers.

"When I took this job and came here remembering what it was like in 1995 when I left, it is just incredible. The facilities we have allow us to go out there and compete with the bigger clubs and say to players, 'Come to Bolton' and make them choose this club over the likes of Manchester United.

"In the short term we know that we have to stay in the Premier League, first and foremost. Once we have done that we can then look forward."
