Bolton Wanderers boss Owen Coyle refuses to give up on Gary Cahill's season.
The Bolton centre-half is now at home after emergency surgery to dissolve a blood clot on his arm.
Cahill, 24, has been told to take a break while he receives medication to thin out his blood.
But that means his rehabilitation period will be months rather than weeks.
And Coyle said: "I'll leave no stone unturned to do anything we can for him. I said he'd be out for a number of months. I'd love to think there is a glimmer of hope, primarily for Bolton because of the position we're in, and for his own goal, which is to make the World Cup."
