The Sun says Bolton have made an official approach for Palace boss Freedman.
Eagles chiefs refused to say whether Scot Freedman, 38, will be given permission to talk to Trotters chairman Phil Gartside.
But after Mick McCarthy snubbed Bolton last week, rising star Freedman is the new favourite.
