Former Rangers star Richard Gough has compared current centre-back Carlos Bocanegra to ex-Tottenham defender Gary Mabbutt.
USA captain Bocanegra is starting to impress with his performances for the Glasgow giants after joining from French club Saint-Etienne in August and has received praise from the man who won nine Scottish championship medals in nine years at Ibrox and also spent time in North London with Mabbutt at Spurs.
"I spoke to Carlos at the start of the season when I was over for the Aberdeen game," Gough told SunSport.
"I stuck my head round the dressing-room door before kick-off to wish the boys well. I'm not sure if he knew who I was, maybe he did.
"I told him he'd joined a fantastic club in Rangers.
"Carlos is one of those defenders who attacks the ball well in the opposition box. He's not the biggest centre-half, but he is a real threat.
"He reminds me very much of Gary Mabbutt when we were at Tottenham.
"I didn't see too much of Bocanegra when he came through at first in America.
"But I saw him at Fulham and I was impressed.
"He's a Californian boy, but he's from a Mexican background and they have bred some good defenders over the years.
"When you play almost 100 games for the USA you must have something about you."
