David Silva is likely to miss the start of Manchester City's latest Champions League campaign next week. The Spain international has been ruled out of this weekend's trip to Stoke with a thigh injury.

And next Sunday's derby game against Manchester United is a more realistic target than the midweek trip to Plzen in the Czech Republic.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini said: "We will see next week what happened with him. We hope he can be, not sure - we will try for the derby."
