Bleiberg pleased Culina back with Gold Coast United

Gold Coast United coach Miron Bleiberg admits he is delighted star midfielder Jason Culina came through his national team duties unscathed.

The Gold Coast marquee man was a key ingredient as the Australian team defeated World Cup quarter-finalists Paraguay 1-0 in Sydney on Saturday night and Bleiberg was full of praise for his skipper.

"Jason played extremely well for the Socceroos and is now a leading figure in the national team," Bleiberg said.

"It's nice to see even more evidence that coming back to play in the Hyundai A-League has done him no harm at all in terms of his quality and performance; on the contrary in fact."

And Bleiberg was also delighted for United defender Michael Thwaite who was called up to the squad for the Paraguay match but did not get any game time.

"As for Michael, we are all thrilled for him now that he is back in the Socceroos fold and I understand that the national team coach was very happy with him even though he didn't get in the side this time around. His time will come I'm sure," he added.
