Blackpool's ex-Swansea winger Orlandi turned down seat on fatal Germanwings flight

Blackpool winger Andrea Orlandi has revealed that he was nearly a passenger in the tragic Germanwings plane crash.

The entire world was left shocked after 150 innocent passengers travelling from Dusseldorf to Barcelona lost their lives when Germanwings Airbus A320 - flight 9525 - crashed into the French Alps.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, Blackpool star Orlandi has gone on to reveal that he could have been one of the 150 people inside the aircraft as he was due to return to Manchester from Spain following the international break but he opted for a different route back - which saved his life.

Writing in his blog for AM15, the former Swansea City man revealed: "I flew down to Barcelona on Sunday to sign the purchase of my apartment and I was planning to fly back on Monday morning.

"Due to a timetable misunderstanding I missed the flight back and I had to rush to buy a new ticket to fly that same night or the day after.

"The option to fly to Manchester via Dusseldorf came up, the same flight that crashed. When you find out about all the people who indeed took that plane, then things get worse. Sometimes life is too cruel as no one deserves to end like this."
