Blackpool veteran Phillips impressed by West Brom boss Hodgson

Blackpool striker Kevin Phillips can understand West Bromwich Albion boss Roy Hodgson being mentioned for the England job.

Phillips played for the Baggies before moving to the Seasiders.

"I had two fantastic years there," Phillips told the Birmingham Mail.

"We played some great football but even in those two years we always shipped goals, we always leaked a lot of goals.

"Since Roy Hodgson has been here he has addressed that situation. He has brought Gareth McAuley in to play alongside Jonas Olsson and they look solid at the back now.

"Going forwards they have got pace and they have certainly got goals in the team. He has done a fantastic job.

"The proof is in the pudding for what he has done at West Brom. When he took over they were languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League shipping goals."
