Blackpool striker Campbell grateful for Yeading springboard

Blackpool striker DJ Campbell admits his career was on the scrapheap five years ago.

Campbell earned £50 a week playing for non-League Yeading while working as a van driver at Heathrow, but his fortunes changed in an FA Cup tie with Newcastle in January 2005.

He said: "I was at Yeading and we won a lot of stuff and I scored a lot of goals which was pleasing.

"I had to work to pay the bills as well, but that's part of life.

"Then we played the FA Cup and thankfully there were a few scouts there."
