Blackpool playoff clash with Cardiff worth amazing £90M

The Premiership promotion playoff between Blackpool and Cardiff City is regarded as the richest game in football.

More than £90MILLION is up for grabs to the winners of today's Championship play-off at Wembley - dwarfing the prize on offer in tonight's Champions League final.

Bosses Dave Jones and Ian Holloway will benefit from a deal up 50 per cent on last season's earnings for victors Burnley.

Either Jones' Bluebirds or Holloway's Seasiders will pocket at least £40m in extra revenue next season - the vast majority from a new improved TV deal and the rest from higher gate receipts, shirt sales and other commercial activities.

Even if they are relegated after just one year in the Premier League, they are guaranteed parachute payments of £48m.

Finishing bottom of the Prem will still earn them £40million.

Paul Rawnsley, of financial experts Deloitte, said: "This match offers the winning club the most substantial prizes in world football.

"It provides the opportunity for sound investment and strengthening the foundations of a club for years to come."

The Champions League final between Inter Milan and Bayern Munich is worth up to £36m in prize money to the winners.
