Blackpool are battling Preston North End for free agent Nicky Butt.
The Sunday Express says Blackpool are trying to tempt former Manchester United midfielder Butt to extend his playing days.
The 35-year-old, who left Newcastle United at the end of last season after helping the Toon win the Championship, has been considering a coaching position at Preston under Darren Ferguson.
Bloomfield Road boss Ian Holloway wants Butt's experience for the Tangerines' first Premier League season.
