Blackburn's Warnock using Barnes for inspiration against Brazil

Blackburn Rovers fullback Stephen Warnock admits he grew up idolising Liverpool icon John Barnes.

Barnes will forever be remembered for the mazy dribble which took him half the length of the pitch to score a wonder goal against the Brazilians in a friendly at the Maracana in Rio in 1984.

"I didn't really play left-back until I was in my second year at Liverpool under Rafa Benitez," said Warnock. "I was more of a midfielder - a left-sided and centre midfielder, so my idol was John Barnes growing up.

"Am I going to try and copy his goal against Brazil? I don't know about that, I'll just be happy to get a game and play well."
