Blackburn's Savage undergoes knee surgery

Blackburn midfielder Robbie Savage has undergone knee surgery and has been ruled out of action for between five and six weeks.

Savage is Rovers' only new injury for Wednesday's Carling Cup fourth-round tie at Portsmouth after he limped out of Sunday's Premier League win at Tottenham.

"It's a blow, obviously," admitted Rovers boss Mark Hughes.

"He was playing well, part of a winning team and he's going to be out for a significant period."

He added: "It's the ligament and there's been a little bit of bleeding in there."
