Blackburn's Reid delighted with progress

Blackburn Rovers midfielder Steven Reid believes he is nearing a first team return after his latest reserve outing on Tuesday night.

The midfielder stepped up his comeback from more than a year on the sidelines in a 3-2 defeat to Manchester City.

"I'm just happy to get another 90 minutes under my belt," the 26-year-old said. "Hopefully we can get a couple more in before the gaffer will be looking to get me back involved with the squad."

Reid has now come through three matches for the reserves after 14 months out with serious back and knee injuries.

He was a surprise inclusion in his country's squad for their final European Championship qualifier against Wales on November 17.

He said: "It was a nice surprise but whether I'm quite up to European qualifying shape at the minute, I don't know.

"I'm delighted to be in it, I'll have a chat with the manager and see where we go from there."
