Blackburn Rovers keeper Brad Friedel has warned David Beckham that juggling a domestic and international football career in the States will be anything but plane sailing.
Friedel retired from international football after the 2002 World Cup to spare himself the gruelling 11,000-mile round trip back to his homeland and help prolong his career.
And he said the travelling is something that Beckham will have to get used to, or risk the consequences.
"I know there's a lot of hype, yet he's also a world-class sportsman who I played against many times.
"He's a tremendous footballer, but he has to find a way to adapt to the travelling."
