England boss Steve McClaren handed a call-up to Blackburn Rovers midfielder David Bentley yesterday and immediately praised the young player's character.
"You need that to be an international player.
"Sometimes people make wrong decisions and in my opinion David made a wrong decision when he missed the Under-21 championships in the summer.
"We had a conversation after that, I expressed my feelings to him and he was left out for the Germany game.
"I was interested to see his reaction to that and it has been excellent.
"He's done his talking on the pitch and I'm delighted to have him back in the squad."
