Blackburn Rovers midfielder David Bentley is targeting David Beckham's England spot.

"I really respect David and it is nice to hear people sometimes describe me as the next David Beckham," said Bentley, in talks with Rovers over a new long-term deal.

"Speaking to David when I go away with England, I really like him as a man and to be compared to him is an honour.

"He is a superstar of the game and conducts himself in such a good way because he is quite humble. Everyone admires what he has done and you can't argue with his level of performances. You saw when he came on against Croatia recently the class he has and I was surprised when he got dropped from the England squad.

"Yet he bounced back and the way he performed when he came back was brilliant."
