Blackburn Rovers are in talks with three potential striker signings.
The Daily Star says Mariano Pavone, who missed a penalty while on loan at River Plate that saw the South American giants relegated for the first time last month, is close to joining on a free transfer.
The 29-year-old is ready to buy himself out of his contract with Real Betis and the Argentine striker is in talks to become Steve Kean's first summer signing.
Kean is also on the trail of Freiburg's £10m-rated Papiss Cisse. The Senegalese hitman scored 22 goals in last season's Bundesliga and has been linked with a host of top European sides.
= The Blackburn boss is keen to pair Pavon with Cisse and still wants Manchester City outcast Roque Santa Cruz, who failed to score in a four-month loan stint at Ewood Park last season.
