Former Blackburn Rovers star Craig Hignett says the club needs to find a replacement for John Williams.
Williams stepped down as chairman earlier this month.
Hignett told the Lancashire Telegraph: "John Williams was a fantastic chairman. When I was there, we all liked him as a person and as a chairman and he has done a great job at the club over the years. I wonder what he thinks of things now looking at it from a distance?
"The new owners have come in with no experience of Premier League football and it is a huge ask expecting them to steer the ship on a steady course all on their own.
"From their point of view, it is massively important that they bring in a football person as a new chairman, as a figure head who is well respected in the game.
"Football is not like a normal business and I am sure they are learning that but they need someone at the helm who knows what they are talking about - someone like John Williams.
"John loved the club. Everything he did he did for the club and chairmen like that are a dying breed. I was lucky in that I probably worked with the two best chairman in football, John and Steve Gibson at Middlesbrough. People like that do make a big difference."
