Jordan Rhodes says he is hoping to be given his first competitive international start for Scotland on Tuesday.
Gordon Strachan's men take on Serbia in Novi Sad following their 2-1 loss to Wales in Glasgow on Friday and Blackburn Rovers ace Rhodes says he is prepared to step in for the injured Steven Fletcher after the Sunderland striker sustained ankle ligament damage.
"I have been doing well for Blackburn and if I'm called up by Scotland I would give it my best shot. I approach every game in the right manner and this one is no different," he said.
"I will try my best and that's all I can do.
"I don't know what the gaffer's thoughts are for the Serbia match and it is his call to make.
"I really felt for Steven Fletcher against Wales, we all did.
"He went for an X-ray right after the match and no one was sure what the extent of the damage was.
"It is a real blow for Steven and the team.
"You never want to see a teammate being carried off on a stretcher.
"It's a shame because Steven is a great player.
"I would relish the chance to play alongside him. I learn from him every day in training. He is someone I look up to."
