Despite wanting a summer move away from Blackburn Rovers, Chris Samba could be installed as on-field captain of the club.
The centre-half was skipper at Ewood Park last term but lost the captain's armband recently when he was the subject of heavy interest from Arsenal and Tottenham.
Ryan Nelsen (club captain) and David Dunn (current on-field captain) have been captaining the club whilst Samba has been dumped but Rovers boss Steve Kean admits he will talk with the French-born DR Congo defender about a possible reinstatement.
"I'll sit down with Chris Samba because for me it's been a really tough transfer window for him," he told the Lancashire Telegraph.
"Every single press conference I've done I've had to comment on what Chris Samba's doing. It's been tough for him and he's had a niggly back injury.
"I only wanted him to focus on trying to stay on the pitch and focus on his own job without having to give out all his orders.
"I'll sit down with Chris to make sure that everything's okay with him mentally, make sure he's totally committed to the club, as I'm sure he is, and move that forward.
"Ryan Nelsen's my club captain and will remain my club captain, and I'm sure Chris will come out and be delighted he's here at the club."
