Blackburn's Grella ruled out of Australia v Oman clash

Blackburn Rovers midfielder Vince Grella has been ruled out of Australia's Asian Cup qualifier against Oman tomorrow night. Grella sustained the injury in the 0-0 draw with Holland in Sydney on Saturday night and will play no part in the Socceroos' clash at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne against the Omanis.

"The most important thing today is that everybody is available for selection except of course Vince Grella," Australia coach Pim Verbeek said at a press conference today.

"He got an injury in Saturday's game. It's not as bad as we thought but bad enough that he cannot play tomorrow evening.

"But apart from that, everybody is here, everybody is ready. We had an interesting and relaxing training session yesterday after a tough game on Saturday.

"Today we will train in the stadium, the field looks very good, the stadium is fantastic as always so we are looking forward to training in the evening and of course the match (against Oman) tomorrow

"It's a big game, that's why we are here and I think we can do a very good job tomorrow and we have to win the game, that's clear."

With the injury to Grella, Verbeek was uncertain of who would start in midfield but indicated Grosseto's Carl Valeri could be the man.

"I will make up my mind tonight but it looks like it will be Carl Valeri," he added.
