Blackburn Rovers defender Phil Jones was delighted to mark his debut with a Carling Cup victory over Nottingham Forest.
The 17 year-old centre-half said: "It is a great feeling. It is something I have always dreamed of as a kid and it is nice to put in a good performance.
"There were a bit of nerves. I will keep my feet on the ground though because I still have a long way to go.
"Hopefully I can keep progressing and work my way into the first team. It is a massive boost though the thought the gaffer will give young players a chance.
"I don't think the gaffer will ask too much of me and push me too quickly. I will keep playing well in the reserves and hopefully if I get another chance I will take it.
"There is still a long long way to go for me."
