Blackburn put aside swine flu to knock five past Peterborough

Blackburn Rovers managed to put aside their swine flu worries and account for Peterborough United 5-2 in the Carling Cup.

The Rovers made the most of a ten man Posh outfit to advance to the quarter-finals and it kicked off in the 4th minute through Morten Gamst Pedersen.

Peterborough did keep themselves in the contest early when Chris Whelpdale equalised in the 17th minute but Rovers went ahead just before half-time when Posh goalkeeper Joe Lewis was sent off for clattering into Pedersen and Steven Reid converted the ensuing spot-kick as Darren Ferguson tried to rearrange his men, bringing on James McKeown as Lewis' replacement.

Against the odds, Peterborough got back on level terms five minutes after the break through George Boyd but from then on it was all Blackburn.

Michel Salgado made it 3-2 in the 57th minute before Benni McCarthy netted with less than 20 minutes remaining.

The rout was completed when summer signing Nikola Kalinic scored a second penalty for the home side, making it 5-2 and recording a comprehensive victory.
