Blackburn Rovers have missed out on the signing of Standard Liege midfielder Axel Witsel.
The Mirror says Rovers boss Steve Kean wanted to land the brilliant Standard Liege hard man but the Rovers owners only offered £4 million for him. Portuguese giants Benfica stepped in yesterday with a £7 million deal to beat him in the race.
The Blackburn chief turned to Witsel - who is represented by the Rovers advisers Kentaro - after being priced out of a move for Schalke's United States star Jermaine Jones who starred on loan last season.
Witsel was keen to come to the Premier League, but is opting for Benfica instead because they put a much better package together for him and Standard.
