Blackburn offered to make Man Utd signing Jones highest paid at club

Blackburn Rovers did not just roll over when Phil Jones decided to move to Manchester United yesterday.

United met the £16 million buyout clause in the defender's recently penned deal.

But the Daily Mail says Blackburn made a huge effort to keep Jones, offering to beat United's terms by making him the highest-paid player at Ewood Park on £50,000 a week.

But the defender had made his mind up after taking a call from United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
