Blackburn Rovers legend Kevin Gallacher says the Scottish FA should be lobbying Great Britain coach Stuart Pearce to select their best and brightest.
Gallacher believes Scotland's lack of involvement at major finals in recent years is further reason why young Scots should play for Team GB at the Olympics if given the chance.
Speaking as the Olympic Torch arrived at Hampden on Friday, he said: "I'm for it. I know there is a little bit of politics but Scotland hasn't been in a major competition since 1998.
"For these guys, it gives you that little bit of experience to play in it.
"In an Olympic event, okay, the football isn't as big as the World Cup, but it's a chance to play in a competition and a chance to get that little bit of experience.
"I just think these young guys think about football. Nothing else worries them, they just want to play football. If they get the opportunity, they are honoured.
"If you get a chance to play I would accept that and I would urge the Scottish boys to because it's an experience of a lifetime for them."
